Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (also known as "Our Community Foundation")
This foundation's mission is to build a permanent pool of funds for the broad charitable needs of the community, to manage these funds efficiently, and to use them effectively in responding to the area's changing needs and opportunities.

Area Served: The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and its affiliates provide support to projects in 10 West Virginia counties (Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Jackson, Mason, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Wirt, and Wood) as well as Washington County in Ohio.

Emphasis: Grants are made to support progressive ideas in the areas of:  Arts and Culture, Education, Health and Human Services, Recreation, Youth and Family Services, and Community and Economic Development.


Priority is given to: 

    •   start up of new projects/programs or expansion of existing programs;
  •   seed money for pilot projects or for response to unmet or emerging community needs;
  •   matching grants that leverage additional funding;
  •   projects that reach a broad segment of the community;
  •   projects not adequately served by existing community resources;
  •   urgent needs where prior planning for such needs could not have reasonably been made;
  •   projects serving communities where PACF and its affiliates are the only community foundation in operation.

Grant Information: In 2007, this foundation awarded more that $1.2 million in grants to nonprofit organizations with individual grant awards ranging from less than $1,000 to $10,000.

Application Information: The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation website provides detailed information about grant guidelines and the application process as well as a downloadable application. Grant applications are reviewed twice each year. The current deadlines for submission are March 1st and September 1st, but please doublecheck these with the Foundation prior to applying.
